Stress Management For Men & Women

Men under pressure feel stress and deal with stress differently to how women deal with stress.

How Men Deal With Stress Management

  • Men are more competitive than women in nature.
  • When they are stressed they don’t want to admit it or show any signs of weakness.
  • Men will generally deal with their stress by shutting down or withdrawing from people. It’s sort of like they’re preserving their energy.
  • Men tend to work harder
  • Resort to alcohol, drugs and other stimulates
  • They add distractions into their life (which only adds to the pressure they have)
  • Men adopt a “crash and burn” style of coping with stress where they leave work, go home, collapse on the lounge and fall asleep which is contributes to other relationship issues.

Stress is perhaps the most single important issue in men’s health.  Men need to know that by taking their health seriously they are taking care not only of themselves, but also of those they love.

Women & Stress Management

Women experience a high level of stress in todays world with all the multiple roles they play including wife, mum, income earner, running the household, tending to the children’s needs etc.

How Women Deal With Stress

  • When women feel stressed they tend to seek out support and comfort from friends, family and their partner when they feel stressed.
  • Women talk about their emotions
  • They analyse and try to see new perspectives
  • Women want to understand what the experience is about (hoping to avoid it in the future)
  • They want to be nurtured rather than left alone

Nurturing and being nurtured helps calm women down. Women’s happy hormones kick in when they are being social, talking and sharing. Women generally prefer not to go through stressful times alone and by talking things through they can get through stress much quicker and easier.

Stress Management For Men & Women

Stress on the Body

Stress triggers the same physical systems as fear with an instinctive fight or flight response. Stress hormones act like adrenalin in the body making it easier for people to escape and run for their life. That’s the safety response for fear. Adrenalin allows you to act faster and run faster to keep you safe.  So, while stress feels like it’s a mental issue it’s actually the physical and hormonal response that’s kicking in and pulsating through the body. It can feel overwhelming and out of control.  Stress can affect many areas of your life regardless of being a man or a woman.
