Hypnotherapy FAQ information

Hypnotherapy FAQ’s will help you decide if hypnotherapy is for you:

What Is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a therapy process that works directly with the unconscious mind. The unconscious mind is the part that takes care of your body, holds onto all your memories and stores all your learning so you have automatic responses to situations in life.

Hypnosis is a natural state of selective, focused attention. The ability to enter this unique state of consciousness opens the door to countless possibilities for healing, self-exploration and change. When you enter into the absorbed state of hypnosis, you can use your thoughts, talents and experiences in ways not usually available to you. Hypnosis has been recognized for thousands of years and used for many purposes.

How Does Hypnotherapy Work?

In the state of hypnosis you enable desired changes in your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. The focused state of hypnosis allows changes to intentionally be made “automatically”, changes that you could not consciously make even though you may have tried. When you’re in a hypnotic state you are in a state of deep concentration and you become extremely suggestible to the suggestions given by the hypnotherapist. Those suggestions are absorbed by your unconscious mind and they become part of your own thinking.

Your conscious mind likes to analyze information, judge it and criticize it. So while your conscious mind is resting your unconscious mind wants to absorb the information without questioning it. You generally become very relaxed and your imagination is amplified allowing your mind to recognise opportunities in your life you may not have noticed were right in front of you.

Hypnotherapy is safe. It is a natural experience of going into a state of trance. There are no side effects except relaxation.

What Does Hypnotherapy Feel Like?

A man feeling stress free with hypnotherapy Every person who experiences hypnosis is unique. Your body may feel weighed down and heavy or light as if you’re floating. You may feel warm or tingling feelings throughout your body. You may feel like you were under hypnosis for 5 minutes but in actual fact it was 30 minutes or it may have felt like 30 minutes and it was actually 5 minutes.

Some people say it felt like a deep restful sleep. Most importantly you will more than likely remember the session, there are no side effects other than feeling relaxed. You may find you will have the best sleep you’ve had in a long time and the changes you wanted to make in your life have already begun to take place.

Can Anyone Be Hypnotized?

Anyone can be hypnotized if they want to be hypnotized. Hypnotherapy is a process of following instructions. If you can follow instructions you can be hypnotized. Hypnosis is a natural state and we do it ourselves with or without an induction or someone giving us instructions.

For hypnotherapy to be successful you need to bypass your critical faculty. The critical faculty is the little voice in your head that says, “this isn’t real, this can’t happen, this won’t work”. You know what I mean – that little voice. The most important point of hypnosis is not about being relaxed, it’s to bypass the critical faculty by suspending your disbelief and to follow instructions.

How Long Does It Take?

We start with the pre-hypnotherapy session to determine if hypnotherapy is the best approach for the issue you want to change in your life. I will ask you questions to determine what is going on in your mind that is creating the outcome you are wanting to change. We do a few demonstrations to see which style of hypnotherapy works best for you. Then I will give a plan on how long your hypnotherapy session will take. Usually it is one hour – 1.5 hours. Depending on the issue you may need a few sessions to deal with your issue or it may be resolved in one session.

Hypnosis To Stop Smoking is 2 hours – 2.5 hours.
